Constitutional Deliberation and Elections Update II

July 25th, 2010

Dear WilCo YR Members:

Attached you will find the work of your Leadership Team, plus several dedicated additional Members who gave their time to our informal consitutional amendment workgroup.  The proposed amendments are underlined as added text to the existing document; however, we were not able to show the strike-throughs as MS Word’s “Track Changes” feature became rather cumbersome.  That is why I am attaching the original constitution as it stands now for you to use as a “side-by-side” if you so choose to see what we are proposing to replace.

Thank you all for your patience throughout this process.  We had hoped to have this sent out to you by this past Monday night, but we ended up having a second meeting then, plus some follow up emailings to tie up “loose ends” and ensure we had a clean document to send you.  This still gives you a week to study things and come armed with questions and/or counter-proposals at the next General Assembly meeting.

We look forward to seeing all of you THURSDAY, JULY 29th at StarCo Coffee Bar in downtown Round Rock.  Social is at 6:30pm and meeting starts at 7:00pm.  Remember, we plan not only to pass these amendments but also to ELECT NEW OFFICERS AT THIS MEETING!  I am therefore also attaching the revised proposed org chart for your consideration.  The only requirement to run is that you must have been a member for at least 30 days prior to July 29th.  So think it over and consider joining the new leadership team, should you all pass the amendments!

Take care, and see you next Thursday!

Regards,

Eric Stratton

  • Constitutional deliberations & Upcoming elections update

    July 16th, 2010

Constitutional deliberations started off great last night. We did intend to finish in one night (as crazy as that sounds now.) But, we inevitably had to call it quits at 11pm and the EB agreed to reconvene on Monday at GOP HQ again in Georgetown. Eric Stratton “chaired” the meeting and presented his working draft based on aggregated input from the body and EB over the past few weeks. David, Chris, Jose, Jen and Fred, Alan, Shannon and Justin also participated in the discussion. We quickly voted not to use Robert’s Rules and held a lively informal discussion covering Articles I-VII up to Section 7 of Article 7. That’s about halfway down the scrollbar of the entire document. Good job team!

The second session of constitutional deliberations will convene
at GOP HQ on Monday at 8pm ’til ???!

We already have a few of last night’s participants that have expressed that they may not be able to attend. If you are an active paid member and can not attend at all, we encourage you to give your input to the informal constitutional advisory committee, comprised of the EB and any members willing to attend these deliberations, that is diligently working on the revisions to present a ready-to-approve or amend  draft to the regular Assembly meeting on July 29th.

    Upcoming Elections!

If we vote to approve the new constitutional revisions on the 29th, we may also be holding elections for the Executive Board at that same meeting!

The positions that have tentatively been agreed to by the constitutional advisory committee are:

    • Vice Chair, Education
    • Vice Chair, Programming
    • Vice Chair, Political Activities
    • Vice Chair, Outreach
    • Vice Chair, Communications
    • Chairman
    • Secretary-Treasurer

If you see positions here you’re interested in (and are an active paid member as of June 29th), please participate in the deliberations to flush out the responsibilities of the roles, and of course CONSIDER RUNNING FOR A BOARD POSITION. OR if you DON’T see a position you feel is necessary, please come advocate for your ideas. NOW IS THE TIME!

If you are thinking of running for office, contact Eric or Shannon.

WilCo YR @ RPT Convention 2010

    June 20th, 2010

    Wilco YRs RPT 2010

Boy what a weekend! Look at this fine group of Young Republicans still smiling away, even on day two of the 2010 Republican Party of Texas Convention. Granted, this was before our meeting was actually called to order so that we could conduct the business that we all went there to do. We are all revved up about our new Chairman, Steve Munisteri, and how he was clearly able to connect with the younger generation. Those pictured above proudly wore stickers and carried signs boasting “Stand with Steve”, quickly recognizing that fellow young republicans and young conservatives, were thinking alike, it was time for new leadership.
